Errors and rate limits

How to read an error from the API, and what to do when you send too many requests.

Status codes

• 400: the request is invalid. Check what you sent.
• 401: the key is missing or wrong.
• 403: the key does not have access to this.
• 404: the thing you asked for does not exist.
• 409: the request conflicts with the current state.
• 429: too many requests. Slow down and retry.
• 500 and above: something went wrong on our side. Retry later.

Retrying

Wait before you retry, and wait longer each time. Never retry a request that failed with a 4xx error without changing it.
