Hotspot vouchers: a practical guide
7 min read
Vouchers are a simple way to sell connectivity by the hour or the gigabyte. The trick is to stop sales leaking.
Time or data
A time voucher gives access for a set period. A data voucher gives a set allowance. Many venues combine both, such as three hours or 2 GB, whichever comes first.
Choose plans people understand
Two or three plans beat ten. One short, one medium and one for the day cover most customers.
Batches and expiry
Create vouchers in batches for a venue, and give them an expiry date so old stock cannot be used forever.
Stop sales leaking
- Track every voucher by code
- Tie each batch to an agent or counter
- Compare vouchers sold with vouchers redeemed at the end of the day
A gap between sold and redeemed is not always theft, but it is always worth a question.
Sell online too
Let customers buy a plan on the splash page by mobile money. It sells while you are closed. Read about hotspots and vouchers.
