How to bill ISP customers by mobile money

6 min read

Mobile money is how many of your customers already pay for everything. Here is how to bill them without matching screenshots by hand.

Why mobile money

Most customers do not have a card on file. They have a phone and a mobile money account. If paying you is easy there, you get paid sooner.

Three ways to collect

  • Send to a number, then a screenshot. Simple, but you match every payment by hand.
  • A payment request to the customer’s phone. The customer approves it with their PIN and the provider confirms it.
  • An agent who collects. Useful where customers prefer cash, as long as every payment is recorded.

What good looks like

  • The provider confirms payments, not a screenshot
  • A confirmed payment reconnects the subscriber on its own
  • The customer gets a receipt by SMS
  • Everything lands in one ledger

Pitfalls to plan for

  • Pending requests that never complete
  • Partial payments and wrong amounts
  • Two payments for one invoice
  • A reference the customer typed wrongly

Decide in advance what happens in each case, so your team is not inventing rules on the day.

Getting started

Pick one network, test with small amounts, then add the others. See how billing and payments works in OneRezo.
